Melissa Lucio is set to be executed next week for a crime she claims she didn’t commit and which may or may not have happened.
She was found guilty 14 years ago of murdering her 2-year-old daughter, Mariah, and was condemned to death by a Texas jury.
Lucio allegedly murdered her daughter, according to the state.
However, as additional information about her case has become available, a rising number of lawmakers, religious leaders, anti-domestic violence organizations, and celebrities have urged for clemency.
Lucio, a 53-year-old Mexican American lady, has battled poverty and violence since she was a youngster.
She has a total of 14 children, one of whom is Mariah.
What happened to Melissa Lucio twins?
At the time of Mariah’s death and when she was interrogated, Lucio was expecting twin boys.
While in prison, she gave birth to twins and was forced to give them up for adoption.
Lucio’s family was living in a second-floor apartment in Harlingen, Texas’ Rio Grande Valley, in 2007, and they were getting ready to relocate to a new home.
